   No, baking powder and baking soda are not the same thing..

   CarbonateIt is a sodium salt whose chemical name is sodium bicarbonate and is also known as baking soda. It is especially used in recipes prepared with ingredients containing acid.

   Baking powderIt is a mixture containing baking soda, a drying agent such as starch, and acidic agents. It allows the dough to rise by combining with liquid ingredients without the need for an acidic support such as lemon.

   Both cause the dough to rise by releasing trapped carbon dioxide, but while baking powder creates softer textures, baking soda is suitable for recipes with a denser and fuller consistency.
