    There are several reasons why saffron is expensive:
    • Difficult harvesting process: Saffron is collected entirely by hand and only three strands of saffron are obtained from each flower.
    • Low production, high demand: Saffron production is limited worldwide, especially in countries such as Iran, Spain and India.
    • Strong effect, small amount: Saffron is a spice with a very intense aroma and color; 1 gram may be enough for a meal for 50 people.
    • Being a product suitable for counterfeiting: There are saffron colored with food coloring or imitation saffron available in the market.
    • Special production techniques: In countries such as Iran, traditional production techniques are used, which increases the cost.
