    • hot water test: If the butter melts by shrinking in one piece, it is real; if it melts by breaking into pieces, it is fake.
    • cutting testIf you have difficulty cutting butter straight out of the refrigerator, it is real; if it cracks when touched by a knife, it is fake.
    • Melting test: If it softens at room temperature, it is real; if it melts like water, it is fake.
    • Color test: If the color of the melted parts is darker, it means food coloring has been used.
    • Foaming test: If the butter melting in the pan does not foam, it is fake.
    Also, the price of real butter is usually higher because it is produced from fresh milk using milk fat.
