No information has been found as to why Diyarbakır’s logo is a watermelon. However, some features of Diyarbakır Watermelon, which has become the symbol of Diyarbakır and is one of the registered products identified with Diyarbakır, are as follows:
Appearance. It has a round-oval shape and a variegated structure.
Shell. It has longitudinal dark green stripes on a shiny green background.
Weight. Fruit weight usually varies between 20-30 kg, but can reach up to 50-75 kg when grown using the pit growing method.
Eti. It is red in colour, sweet, fibrous and contains plenty of water.
Diyarbakır watermelon was registered by the Turkish Trademark Patent Office as geographical indication number 111 on August 9, 2008, following the application made on December 4, 2007.
