Wash the lentils thoroughly and boil them in a pot with 4 cups of water.
After boiling, cook over low heat until the lentils become soft.
Wash the rice thoroughly in a separate pot.
Add the washed rice to the pot with the lentils, add salt and stir.
Cover the pot, when the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat and cook with the lid closed until the rice is thoroughly cooked. Check by stirring occasionally.
After the rice is cooked, add butter or oil and mix.
Optionally, you can also add garlic.
Continue cooking by stirring until you achieve a thick consistency.
Before serving, check the amount of salt and adjust as necessary.
Dalbat is usually served with fresh vegetables, pickles or yoghurt.
